Frequently Asked Questions
Why return Tannoy Monitor Red/Gold and Buckingham/ Windsor units to Lockwood Audio for reconing? The sealing of cone edge to frame needs a final chemical treatment which cannot be applied elsewhere.
Why do Tannoy HPD, 3128, 3828, 3838/9, Buckingham/Windsor drive units need complete recones when only the surround appears to have failed? If the front suspension has failed, the rear suspension will probably have been strained and the coil may be damaged, the paper former becoming brittle. It is not possible to remove old surrounds without some damage to cone or struts.
Are modern Tannoy replacement cones as good as the original? Yes! Materials and construction are the same with the exception of superior coils.
How can I identify Tannoy loudspeakers which have no visible model name? Lockwood Audio will try to help!
Are such old loudspeakers worth reconing? In our experience virtually all owners find that the cost of refurbishment, while appearing high, is only a fraction of the cost of a comparable replacement.
Are recones available for Tannoy ‘Black’ and ‘Silver’? Recones for ‘Silver’ are not available, but ‘Red’ parts may be used. Lockwood Audio have no parts for ‘Black’.
Are all parts still available for Mordaunt-Short, Epos and TDL loudspeakers? Since production was interrupted in the late 1990’s some parts are no longer available. We will try to find suitable alternatives where we have found them acceptable. Parts from later (2000 on) models are not compatible.
What is the policy of Lockwood Audio on warranty claims? We are authorised by the previous and current manufacturers to supply f.o.c. replacements for parts showing manufacturing defects only. We are unable to accept any claim without proof of purchase.
